


Firefox is far better in that point, but if you really don't want to use it look into ungoogled Chromium. If you care about your privacy, don't use Chrome. I'm using Chrome for anything that contains my information So other than the security level just leave the Tor Browser as it is. Those levels are profiles of settings specifically designed to be used that way. A remarkable exception is the Security level. Don't screw with it's configuration without knowing the exact consequences. The same applies for other modifications of the Tor Browser as well.

But even if they don't they can still affect Tor Browsers protection measures in an unforeseen way. Don't install any VPN extensions or extensions in general. But be sure to pick a trustworthy VPN since VPNs are privacy by policy and you depend on the provider following a good policy. If you'd like to use a VPN for your connections not covered by Tor, you can of course do that. Tor provides you with very strong anonymity on its own and while you can very well hurt your anonymity and privacy by choosing an untrustworthy VPN or configuring it wrongly, you won't gain much from it. I'm using a vpn, and I turn it on before opening TOR The measures you need depend on your goal.
